Nestled away in New Bonaventure on Newfoundland’s historic Bonavista Peninsula, the Random Passage site is approximately three-hours outside of St. John’s (the province’s capital) and roughly two-and-a-half hours from Gander.
The easiest route is to exit the Trans-Canada Highway at Route 230 and enjoy a scenic 62 km drive. Just before Port Rexton, turn off onto Route 239 (locally known as Main Road) and continue the final 17 km through Goose Cove, Dunfield, and Trouty until you reach the end of the road – you can’t miss it!
The Scenic Route
Coming from St. John’s? You can shave some time off the drive and soak in more local culture by taking the scenic route via the Old Bonavista Highway (Route 230A).
Turn off the TCH at Memorial Drive in Clarenville (look for the Tim Hortons), continue along Balbo Drive, and cross the Shoal Harbour Causeway Bridge. From there, hug the coast through Milton and George’s Brook, staying on the road until you reconnect with Route 230.
After that, it’s just 50 km to the Route 239 turnoff—then follow the road through Goose Cove, Dunfield, and Trouty straight to our doorstep.

Accessibility
The Random Passage Site includes gravel paths, uneven terrain, and historic-style structures. While the Schoolhouse Tearoom is wheelchair accessible, some areas may be challenging or otherwise inaccessible for visitors with mobility limitations. We’re currently exploring options to improve access and welcome everyone.
Before You Go:
Some Essentials For Success
If you’re looking for adventure off the beaten path, there’s no better place to start than the end of the road—which is exactly where you’ll find Random Passage.
During the tourism season, a variety of delightful dishes are available at our Schoolhouse Tearoom and we make outdoor dining experiences available for pre-order via our George’s Cove Picnic program.
Planning ahead and bringing lunch or snacks is a good idea if you’re visiting in the shoulder months. Remember to check our hours and pack accordingly.
Don’t forget: Newfoundland weather is famously unpredictable. Be sure to check the latest forecast before you set out, as conditions can—and do—change quickly without warning.
